Some Things Lost
A girl and her loyal dog wander an empty storm-struck city, collecting lost objects left behind in the ruins. When they discover a Daughter of the Sea trapped in the basement, they set out to return her home. In exchange, the Sea restores what the girl has been missing most.
Overview
I wrote, illustrated and designed Some Things Lost as a pitch project to explore narrative world-building, character design, and atmospheric storytelling. The story and style blend fantasy and magical realism, with endearing characters, fairy-tale mechanics and nature personified.
Approach
The storybook style of the this project allows readers to explore themes of loss, trauma and isolation through age appropriate narrative. The palette, layout, and visual motifs were chosen to balance melancholy with wonder, and enhance the minimalistic writing style.
